HOLIDAYS ACTIVITIES
Since 2009, we here at Pickles by EITC (formally Emerald Isle Theatre Company) have been offering English speaking shows and theatre workshops to secondary school students in France and Belgium. Our actors are all professionally trained and native English speakers.
Over the years, with our super motivated and multicultural team, we have developed our own specific pedagogy that has allowed us to explore teaching of English through theatre. We are proud of our simple, educational and fun approach to English that is always adapted to the students we are working with.
For schools, we offer one-off workshops that last 100 minutes. These workshops cater to a class of up to 30 students and are 100% in English. This allows a total immersion in the English language while also exploring language and theatre in an interactive and fun way.
Over the years, more and more summer camps have reached out to see if we offer activities over the holidays. Thanks to this enthusiasm we have decided to put our knowledge to the test by developing a series of workshops specifically adapted for summer camps.
Thanks to these summer camp workshops, we can go further with the participants than in our regular workshops. The possibilities with our activities that explore language and theatre are endless!
As always, we are developing more propositions to be able to offer more opportunities to you. Opportunities that correspond to the needs and wants of you and your participants.
WHAT WE OFFER:
1/ Workshop: Discovery
- A 180 minute workshop
- Up to 25 participants
Objectives:
- To explore verbal and non verbal communication through the use of theatre
- To develop self confidence and confidence in the use of the English language
Example of content:
- Exploring different forms of communication verbal and physical
- Discovery of basic theatre techniques including voice, movement and emotions
- Imagination exercises
- Collaborative games, both competitive and teamwork focused.
2/Workshop: Exploration
- 2 or 3 180 minute workshops (over 2 or 3 consecutive days)
- Up to 25 participants

- Continued development of team work
- Exploration of character creating

3/ Workshop: Creation
- 4 or 5 180 minute workshops (over 4 or 5 consecutive days)
- Up to 25 participants
Objectives:
All objectives in the Exploration workshop and…
- Develop a deeper understanding of teamwork, scene creation and characters
- Further develop language skills
- Deepen understanding of story creation, including well known narrative structures and ideas
- Share complex ideas
- Explore creating in groups, acting techniques and text based work

- Active exploration of narrative structure
- Work on parables and tales to tell a message
- Developing techniques to entice an audience
- Using all types of theatre to create work with a clear objective
- Story telling in English
- More in depth acting techniques
- How can emotion influence the way we say text?
- How can dialogue create tension and intrigue for an audience?
Of course, this is a non-exhaustive list of activities and techniques that we can use with the participants. What we are most interested in is having a conversation with you about your expectations and needs in order to adapt our workshops around your participants.
